Finding Solace

The Grand Tetons and the Snake River, Autumn, Sunset, Grand Tetons National Park 2013 Photograph by ©Craig Varjabedian

I made this picture during an Eloquent Light Photography Workshop I taught at the Grand Tetons during the week of September 15-20.  It was a week of beautiful photography fueled by a breath-taking landscape, beautiful light and energized participants. We photographed everything from the majestic mountains, to wild mustangs to old dude camps and so much more. It was an absolutely incredible week.

It bothers me that our National Parks are closed down due to the government shutdown. My wife, an employee at a government facility, will be furloughed on the 21st of this month if our elected officials can’t figure out how to resolve their differences. Many federal employees are already furloughed. Washington seems out of touch with our lives. Things are bad all over.

I feel like I need to say something so I present this photograph where in it I find solace and peace in the middle of this storm. While it is an image made at sunset, I believe it holds the promise of a better tomorrow.  This I hope and pray . . .
